"Heavenly Angels"

In Memory of my Father - a Spiritual connection to those that have passed before me.

This picture was taken one day as I was meditating on my back porch. As I opened my eyes, I looked up and saw the above cloud formation; I named "Heavenly Angels". God Bless!!

I just realized the date (11/13) - My 48th Birthday - WOW!! What a spiritual connection - Amazing!!

The Subtle Mind

After completing and comparing the the Loving-Kindness and the Subtle Mind practices, I found both to be a positive experience; however the Subtle Mind was easier for me.   Even though I tried both exercises 3 different times, I was able to relax and focus better all three time with the Subtle Mind.  The Loving-Kindness CD focused on my feeling of other and during that week, my life was chaotic and full of arguments; which may have made it harder to focus until I was completely exhausted after an intense physical workout. This week was a very good week not as much stress and I was able to focus on myself more which is not always practical. During each of my attempts, I was able to quiet my mind each time and clear my mind giving me a positive outlook.  I enjoyed this exercise.

I believe the connection of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness is all about balance.  For example, being physically healthy influences mental and spiritual health, and vice-versa. As I become more aware of physical ailments or a sense of overall bodily well-being, I come to realize that it's connected to my greater sense of wellness. It took me a while to figure out that eating right and exercising weren't just about achieving superficial results but benefited my well-being in ways that I didn't even think of. For example, eating healthy and exercising leads to sleeping better which leads to less fatigue and a greater level of concentration during the day, leading to a deeper sense of wholeness and inner peace.

  1. I have not tried this exercise yet, but it seems that are one of the only ones who said this was the easier one. I look forward to trying it tonight.
You are right about eating right and exercise being good for you mental well being as well. I know when I don't get to the gym it really affects every part of my life, physical and mental.

  2. I agree with you in regards to the exercises. The subtle mind exercise seemed to be easier for me. I was more able to relax and clear my mind. I also agree with your statement about spiritual wellness and mental and physical wellness is all about balance. To me, if you have these three...you can have health, happiness, and wholeness.

  3. I agree the subtle mind exercise seemed easier but I enjoyed them both. It is difficult to stay in the contmplative mode for as long as I would like to. I feel like I should be doing something and keep busy. We are bombarded with activity throughout the day so it is hard to sit still.

  4. Great posting, I also found the Subtle Mind exercise more relaxing than the loving kindness. I also think it is a good exercise to do at night to help us "debrief". Great post.

  5. "Debriefing" is an interesting way to look at the exercise!

Good points on how eating well influences our emotional wellbeing. Two of the best nutrients to combat the feelings of stress are Vitamins B and C -- both found in a healthy diet, and stripped away by unhealthy foods.
